Can Long Term Rangers Fan Achieve His Dream This Summer

For neutral observers of the domestic Scottish Premiership campaign, few cannot applaud the job that new Rangers manager Philippe Clement did for the club in the 2023/24 campaign as he came in after the season had already begun as Michael Beale's replacement, and seriously turned their fortunes around.

Now, as everyone knows given their significant high points when they returned to the top of the Scottish Premiership table, the 50 year old Belgian just could not muster enough consistency for them to keep that advantage, and history will show that Celtic, and manager Brendan Rodgers, ultimately won out with a strong finish to take the title by a semi comfortable margin but those playing historical video games would have produced their own outcomes here.

Whilst neutrals had a fair bit of entertainment when it came to the title battle last season, it is fully expected that the campaign of 2024/25 may well be a little bit more tantalising as whilst Rodgers has work to do with his Celtic squad, Clement now gets his first pre season and summer transfer window to wheel how he wants to deal.

There are other sides in the top flight, who it is fair to say were well off the pace, and others who probably exceeded expectations when it came to their final league positions, and they also come into play when it comes to next years' table, and we have already heard strong talk about some having aspirations to mount a bigger challenge on what is historically our expected top two.

It could be interesting in a way it has not been for a while.

One thing that needs to be factored in is Rodgers likes experience, Clement seems to be going for development potential in the deals they have made so far, but if the latest rumour proves to be true, the former defender has changed tact a little and has not lost sight of experience, savvy, nouse or leadership - as they are being linked with 32 year old midfielder, Kenny McLean.

The Scottish international knows the league well from his time with St Mirren, Arbroath and Aberdeen, but he gained fantastic further experience at the Canaries with over 200 games to his name that took in both the English Championship level, and the Premier League.

He does still have two years left on his contract at Carrow Road (with a further 12 month option in their favour), but if the Gers do have a real interest in him, he has long made his aspirations clear that at some point in his career he would love to rock up at Ibrox and represent his boyhood club.

Back in 2021, given all the long standing and numerous links that suggested he may well have joined the club previously, he went on record as saying that 'I'd be lying if I said it wasn't something I'd want to do' but he also then quickly pivoted to the fact that Norwich has returned to the Premier League 'so I'm not thinking about it!'.

Whilst many may think that would shut the speculation down, he continued to describe such a move as being 'pretty special', admitting he was a boyhood fan who attended games, and that for anyone who grew up in Glasgow, it was one or the other, but in his mind 'I was on the better side'.

Whether a fee can be agreed or not remains to be seen, but this is one deal that might come off and not be a surprise.
