This Scottish football season has been very different to what we are used to and when you look down the footballing pyramid, we have seen differences in the schedule and how many games have been played across the different divisions.
A shortened season has taken place in League One, with breaks in the middle and that has not been perfect for the teams involved, or for the fans who have been watching on from home. However, if you want a positive from this, then without a doubt the big one is that the promotion race has been fantastic.
If you include the playoff positions then seven of the ten teams in this league still have genuine promotion hopes, and some of them have just three games to go. This has brought an all-inclusive excitement that we haven’t really seen before, many fans across many teams are excited to see what comes next.
This has led to more interest and more eyes on the league, which in the long run is only a good thing, as fans from all over tune in, check out the standings and even bet on games using betting sign up offers.
The Teams Who Could Get Promoted
If you look at the top of the table then you will see that Falkirk lead the way with a three-point gap to the chasing pack and there is much talk about their promotion chance. They are currently seven points ahead of those who are outside of the playoff positions. In terms of the automatic spot, they hold the key to that, but if they fail to get over the line, then the playoffs are seemingly secured.
Behind them is where the current League One standings are very tight, and there are just five points between Cove in second and Peterhead down in 7th. Three of these teams will get into the playoffs and still have a shot at promotion while three will miss the opportunity and remain in League One for another season.
As the standings look at the moment, two of the teams who are on the outside of the playoff places, Partick Thistle and East Fife, are the two teams in this race who have an additional game left to play, so they have four to play and the chance to move into the playoffs by winning that game.
Under normal circumstances, when we get to this stage in the season we are left with a small number of teams who are battling it out for the promotion places. This is not the case this season, and there has been criticism about the schedule and how games have been played, but at least it has given us an exciting finish to look forward to as fans.
There is a genuine chance that everything could still be up for grabs on the final day of the season, which would bring a dramatic ending to the season ahead of the promotion playoffs.
