Premier League Pre-Season Round Up

Premier League Pre-Season Round Up

Pre-season matches are in full swing and with the start of the 2019/20 season around the corner, how have Premier League sides performed so far?

Premier League clubs have been in pre-season action since the beginning of July and will participate in various competitions across the world to improve fitness and give the managers a chance to experiment ahead of the forthcoming season.

Seven of the 20 Premier League outfits are unbeaten in their pre-season campaigns so far, which would have been a godsend for your round robin bet, and Arsenal, Aston Villa, Leicester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur all maintain a 100% win record. The Gunners endured an impressive 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich, while Harry Kane scored an outrageous half-way line winner to give Spurs a 3-2 victory over Juventus. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have won three out of three so far as they aim to finish in the top four this season.

Frank Lampard’s Chelsea have struggled for results so far, winning just one of their opening three pre-season matches. Crystal Palace have also found it difficult, losing four of their five matches as they face an ongoing battle to keep Wilfred Zaha at the club. Newcastle fans were delighted with what they saw against West Ham, beating the Hammers 1-0 in Steve Bruce’s first game in charge of the Magpies.

Both Manchester City and Liverpool are set to lock horns for the Premier League title yet again this season, but pre-season victories have not been a formality. Jurgen Klopp’s side won their opening two matches but defeats to Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla is not what the fans expected. City triumphed over West Ham in their opening match but lost to Wolves on penalties in their most recent bout.

This season beckons to be an exciting race to see who will finish seventh and achieve the Europa League spot. Wolves finished seventh last season and are unbeaten thus far, beating Newcastle 4-0 and City on penalties. Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester have won both their opening pre-season encounters and look set to challenge for a top-seven finish. West Ham and Everton are also in the mix, but mediocre performances and results has left some doubt in the fans’ mind.

Burnley, Norwich, Sheffield United, Brighton and Southampton are all preparing for a relegation battle in the 2018/19 campaign; the Canaries and the Saints are the only two out of these sides to maintain an unbeaten pre-season so far.
