The Hibs Enigma

The Hibs Enigma

Hibernian FC have captured the majority of the recent headlines in Scottish Football with the men from Leith teetering on the brink of an implosion that has already seen off their ambitious treble hopes and which could yet see them end the season empty handed and consigned to another season of Championship football.

A few short weeks ago and you could have got 1/4 on the Hibees securing promotion back to The Scottish Premiership but 4 consecutive league defeats to Morton, Dumbarton, QoS and Raith Rovers have seen the once title wannabees reduced to scrambling around in third place desperately trying to recover ground on a buoyant Falkirk side that has taken advantage of their misfortune to cement a 6 point gap in second place.

In between all that we saw the men in Green surrender the League Cup to Ross County and whilst an away win at ICT kept dreams of that elusive Scottish Cup win alive there will be understandable cause for concern in the Hibs ranks.

Alan Stubbs side had looked a good bet to break the stranglehold at the top of the Championship that Rangers have held almost every week since the season began but the dip in form of Jason Cummings, epitomised by a shocker on Saturday away at Raith has coincided with a dismal run that has seen the Edinburgh giant reduced to title also-rans.

Hibs next league meeting is away at St.Mirren on April 2nd, a Saints that is well into a recovery period under Alex Rae. It's unlikely to be a friendly encounter allowing Hibs to bounce back from their horrendous form dip but bounce back they must or they will be left on the outside looking in when the prizes are dished out come the end of the season.
